Liberty & Co attr. fireside rush seat chair

Offered here for sale as part of the small chair range by The Sitting Place® is a small beech wood fireside single chair with original woven rush "envelope" seat. This type of rush chair in the Arts & Crafts manner was retailed by Liberty (London) based on a design by William Morris and is dated turn-of-the-century (c. 1900). The chair has a high lathback consisting of a contoured head rail above five wavy vertical rails/splats and double classic stretchers to the front and the sides of the seat. The latter is quite is low (31cm high) as such a chair was originally intended for sitting low and as close to the fire as possible to keep warm. Please note that this chair is small - see comparison with a dining chair on the post on small chairs on our Instagram page @thesittingplace. This collectable chair with simplistic charm would look of the time when placed next to a small stove or small fireplace in any setting (with a William Morris or Liberty type interior décor) or a cottage-style kitchen.

Condition: Good original condition, sturdy with no wobbles, no breakages to the rush seat, which is clean but has some surface wear, scuffs and general wear to the original wood finish, condition throughout is commensurate with age and past use, no woodworm.
