Offered here for sale as part of the small chair range by The Sitting Place® is a very pretty aesthetic movement ebonised bedroom/nursing chair dated to the late 19th century. The structural padded back features vertical ring-turned side uprights, which are accented by ball finials. The top head rail has a pretty low-relief stylised fan and floral carved motif, framed by elegant side scrolls. The top back rail has an interesting cup handle. The low seat sits above a lower turned gallery of stretchers reminiscent of the Anglo-Japanese stylistic influences of the time. The feet stand on castors with the ceramic wheels incided C & C patent for the makers Copes and Collinsons. The chair is entirely traditionally re-upholstered by The Sitting Place®. The chair is covered in block print floral Lulu fabric by Julia Brendel (cornflower) and finished with woven light blue and cream trimming. The soft blue and cream colour scheme pairs beautifully with the black ebonised frame of the chair, while the floral pattern of the fabric complements nicely the floral wood carving on the head rail. Please note that the chair is quite small - see comparison with a dining chair on the post on small chairs on our Instagram page @thesittingplace. Due to its size, the chair would make an ideal decorative item to display a treasured collectable bear and the like. The number 57 is incised on the tacking frame of the seat. Models similar to this chair have been attributed to the London-based cabinet makers Gregory & Co (1859-1940). Note that colours on screen may differ slightly from the actual colours.
